Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be “good at writing”?
Absolutely not. These programs aren’t creative writing classes. They are academically researched models about self expression for healing, not performance. I guide you step-by-step and you have all of the creative license you want. At the end of the program you might like to turn your work into a book or you may prefer to have a fire ceremony and burn your pages.
I think too much when I try to meditate. I can’t turn my mind off.
When I started studying meditation I couldn’t sit peacefully for one minute. I’m serious. I discovered with practice, and time, that I was able to be more comfortable sitting in stillness for longer periods. More importantly, I learned that the practice is not about removing thoughts, instead it’s about noticing them but not getting caught up in the story.
What if I experience strong emotions during a session?
This work can bring up feelings, especially for those moving through cancer recovery, caregiving, or major life changes. The programs have been designed on the foundations of successful support groups. You are free at any time to pause, breathe or step outside. You will also be among like-minded women sharing this experience with you.
Are the groups confidential?
Yes. This is agreed by all group members at the start of each program. Confidentiality is a core part of creating a safe, respectful space. Any information I receive from you will be treated in accordance with Privacy Laws.
Do I have to share what I write?
Sharing is optional. One week you might feel like sharing, another week you don’t. There is no pressure and the outcome isn’t impacted by this choice.
How many people are in the groups?
The groups are between 2 and 5 people maximum. For this program, this number allows everyone to feel seen and supported without being overwhelmed.
I feel nervous about joining a group. Is that normal?
Completely normal. Even I feel a bit nervous each time I start a new group. Many people arrive feeling unsure or self-conscious. We are asking ourselves a lot of “what if” questions. I can assure you that within minutes, most group members describe feeling settled, welcomed and relieved to be around people who “get it”.
Can I have a one to one session if I prefer?
Of course. We will work together just you and I. The program structure remains the same as do the benefits.
Is this therapy?
No. These programs are not counselling or clinical therapy. They are guided wellbeing programs based on the work of Dr James Pennebaker, PhD that support emotional expression, reflection, connection and nervous system calming. If you feel you need additional professional support, I can facilitate this for you.
How do I pay?
